The sad truth here is that this photo was taken after a little sprucing up. Since then, we've been slowly, but surely, changing space from a dumping ground to a usable guest bedroom. Here's what that same angle looks like now:
The curtains make me drool. I found the fabric at Tonic Living, and asked my mom for eleven yards of it for Christmas. She hated the idea of giving me a box of fabric, but it has totally transformed the room and given me a jumping off point for the rest of its look.
There's still a lot of work to be done in here: a little love for the desk, a weathered wood headboard, a new dresser and rug, and maybe a custom nightstand. For now, I'm basking in the little details that have helped make this room look intentional, like the chunky gold mirror (thanks, Goodwill!), and the wine cork H.
I have to say, I've saved about a thousand wine corks, so this project was perfect for me. I free-handed a capital H on some poster board, cut it out, and started gluing corks all over it. There are still a few spots that need to be filled in with cut corks, but I didn't want to wait for Bryan to get home to help, so I just hung it anyway. Truth be told, it will probably stay this way forever, and that's just fine by me. We're all about going with the flow here.
I also added a little photo rail, inspired by the fact that the previous owners had painted over a picture hanger so many times that it now requires The Hulk to remove it. So, I hung our portrait of Remy about eight inches higher than I normally would, and compensated with something underneath. I told you, we go with the flow around here. It's just an old curtain rod with some extra curtain clips. I love the way the rail works with everything else to create a balanced, but unusual wall space. And I love how easily I can switch out the photos.
And there you have it: progress on our once useless guest bedroom. Next, we're going to have to make a little dent on the guest bedroom closet. All that junk in that first photo didn't just get thrown away, you know.
